Most people use or have used a dictionary at least once in their life time. Maybe for translating a certain word or a complete phrase. But having a large dictionary can make finding a certain word a really lengthy and difficult process. To bring some help with this matter, there are a lot of websites that allow looking up words in virtual dictionaries but, unfortunately, these websites cannot be used without having an Internet connection. This is why one should have a software for looking up words. That's because such a software can be used anytime, anywhere, even if an Internet connection is not available.

One virtual dictionary software is Pop-Up Dictionary. It's a simple Windows application that allows looking up words in the shortest time possible. It supports many languages. The default application includes only the English and Russian languages, but more can be downloaded from the producer's website, even rare languages or artificial ones.

After the program is installed and launched, the user will be presented with a simple interface in which he can type the desired word. Doing so will immediately display its pronunciation, together with the translated word. Adding a new dictionary is very simple, as Pop-Up Dictionary is compatible with DBF files. Thus, the user should only download the corresponding database file from the producer's website and load it into the program.

Most words included in the dictionary contain a pronunciation sound file, which is very useful especially for children who would like to learn new words. For helping them with this, the program's interface also includes a test tab, which involves writing the corresponding English word for one in another language. The software can track the amount of time needed to complete the test.
